February Class: Strippy Stars
Ladies:
For our next class, we will be working on Strippy Stars (Saturday February 5th). There are a lot of options with this pattern, and I will review a few of them. For the block specific to the Medallion quilt, we will be making the 6 inch star and will need to cut the following:
Background:
Cut (8) 2 ½” Squares per Star block. I would suggest that you cut several 2 ½ inch strips and subcut them into 2 ½ inch squares.
Dark/star color:
Cut one 2 1/2” for the Center square (per block).
Cut 1 ¾” Width of Fabric Strip per block- you will not need the whole length of the strip for the star, so one strip will be sufficient to learn the block.
- Bring sewing machine, fabric, and basic supplies including cutting tools.
- A pencil and small straight edge for marking the back of the fabric for sewing lines. Fabric marking pens will definitely work, however, we will be drawing on the wrong side of the fabric, so light marking pencils will be OK.
- You will need the Strippy Stars tool (Creative Grids) as well.
I am very excited about this class and seeing you all again!
If you have issues from previous tools/blocks, I am happy to help you. We can try to do it during class, or you can schedule time with me outside of class. I want you all to be extremely successful!

I love this quilt as it is, but like every quilt, we can think about how modifications will completely change the look of this pattern. Multiple modifications exist that will look totally different, and we will go over a few options:
1) It’s Christmas! Consider making the Star and Dresden squares only in a Christmas wall hanging, or a full quilt.
Use green and red strips for the star and red or gold for the Dresden blocks for surrounding poinsettia’s.
2) Bright’s – create a totally different look using bright colors
3) Varigated one color: if you love one color, consider making the quilt with variations of one main color
(e.g. blues/greens/reds/purples/flower/20s fabric)
4) NON Scrappy / consider making the quilt with a chosen palette of color / where colors are set – NOTE: this will
require more organization!
5) Consider making the star with Dresden only for a wall hanging or you can add a printed border to enlarge.
6) Consider stopping after the Square in a Square + Applique for another unique smaller quilt.
We will review each ruler we use at the beginning of class and see versions of the use of each block type so that you will be able to see possibilities beyond this particular quilt, so that you can use your rulers again and again for a multitude of possibilities!
