Block Party 101 - Quilting Basics
This 6-week course provides LESSONS FOR students with everything first-time quilters need to succeed. A variety of quilt blocks will be created and used to develop a sampler quilt. (see sample in the quilt shop or a photo at the website or on FACEBOOK). The fee for the 18-hour (3 hours per week for 6 weeks) course is $150. There will be a one-time kit fee for handouts and other materials provided by the instructor (students will pay the instructor for the kit). There will be some homework each week.
Materials REQUIRED for this course:
Textbook: Start Quilting with Alex Anderson (purchase at Heavenly Stitches)
Fabric: See fabric requirements for the Sampler Quilt on page 41 in the
textbook.
Tools: Rotary Cutter, Log Cabin 6” ruler set, 6” x 24” ruler,
Sewing Machine in good working order and standard supplies.
You will make 25 blocks for The Sampler Quilt (40 ½” x 40 ½”) as follows:
- 8 Rail Fence blocks, 6” finished – Week 1
- 5 Nine-Patch blocks, 6” finished – Week 2
- 2 Nine-Patch Variation Blocks 6” finished – Week 3
- 3 Log Cabin blocks 6” finished - Week 4
- 3 Friendship Star Blocks, 6” finished – week 5
- 3 Flying Geese Blocks, 6” finished – Week 5
- 1 Square Dance Block, 6” finished – week 4
- Quilt top construction , inner border, outer border – Week 6
