Reversible Quilted Jacket Class

Join Nancy Wagner to make this beautiful quilted jacket.

  • Session 1 -  3 hours (select fabric, determine pattern size and choose a piecing and quilting design)  Students will sew the jacket together using muslin for fitting purposes.
    • The pattern will be provided by the instructor (included in class fee)
    • Students will choose to do a patchwork jacket, crazy patch design, a jacket with yokes that uses a jelly roll, etc.
    • Supplies Needed
      • Sewing machine with accessories
      •  3 yards of muslin
      • Fabric (may be purchased during this session) cotton, rayon, polyester, or rayon batiks),  I recommend rayon batiks or 100% rayon.  Cotton and polyester are also appropriate.  You will need about 3 yards for the backing. For larger sizes you will need 3 1/2 yards.   The amount needed for the main fabric will vary depending on your design.
      • Heirloom Fusible Batting
      • 1/4" of soft cording for making Frog Closures and 3 yards of 1/8" cording for piping
      • 6 large buttons with a shank - I cover buttons to match the jacket (1 1/2" or 1 1/4" buttons to cover)
      • pre wash all fabric
  • Session 2 - Bring all supplies listed for Session 1 to this session.  Bring pre-washed fabric pressed and ready for cutting.
    • Students will:
      • cut out jackets using selected designs
      • piece according to the selected design
      • fuse to batting that has been cut 1" larger than the actual batting 
      • begin quilting the pieces
    • Homework …
      • complete quilting of jacket pieces
      • trim to pattern size
      • cut bias binding and press in half using main fabric and reverse side fabric. You will need about 3 yards of each
  • Session 3
    • Assemble the jacket using French seams or binding.  
    • prepare pockets (optional)
    • attach pockets (optional)
    • prepare piped binding
    • apply binding
    • ENJOY Wearing your quilted reversible jacket!
